Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas has been one of the signings of 2014
With 2014 set to draw to a close it is a time to reflect on what has gone before in the Premier League, especially the players that have made a big impact at new clubs.
Here is a list of who I think have been the best signings of 2014.
Cesc Fabregas (Chelsea)
Chelsea were strong last season and Fabregas’ arrival only made the Blues midfield even stronger.
Fabregas was linked with a return to former-club Arsenal, but it was Jose Mourinho’s club who signed the Spaniard.
It has turned out to be a masterstroke from Mourinho. The former-Barcelona ace has scored twice and produced an outstanding 13 assists this season in the Premier League.
The Spaniard has create…
England’s calendar year ended with a mundane 1-1 draw in North Macedonia on Monday night.
It was a lacklustre close to 2023 for Gareth Southgate’s side but during the past 12 months they won in Italy for the first time in 62 years and secured Euro 2024 qualification with two games to spare.
Here, the PA news agency goes back over the 10 games played to give collated ratings for players who appeared in at least three fixtures.
JORDAN PICKFORD: 7 (out of 10)Appearances: 8, Clean sheets: 4
Undoubtedly remains Southgate’s first-choice goalkeeper and started all of the Euro 2024 qualifiers – has an interesting end to the Premier League season after Everton were deducted 10 points.
MARC GUEHI: 7Appearances: 7, Clean sheets: 3, Goals: 0The Crysta…
The Philadelphia Eagles head to face the Washington Football Team with both teams still having ambitions of reaching the playoffs. The Dallas Cowboys may have won the NFC East but there’s still hope, admittedly a small one, with the Eagle the most likely of the two to make the playoffs.
Don’t miss our NFL picks and predictions for the Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington Football Team on Sunday, January 2.

The look-ahead lines for Week 16 odds are out, with the majority of the slate (11/16 games) happening on Saturday, December 24… and just three games on Sunday, December 25.
Looking through the early lines, there’s one game that stands out now as a holiday betting gift, just waiting to be unwrapped on Christmas Eve.
Trust me, it’s not that weird: When my sister and I were kids, our family used to let us open one (and one only) present on the night before Christmas. If that’s a tradition you never had… well, consider this your chance to experience the joy of getting a gift before Christmas Day.
In this case, Santa and his reindeer (or are they the elves?) take the form of Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs laying single digits at home against …
Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos came down to Earth last weekend when they took a 42-17 drubbing at the hands of the Detroit Lions. But the Broncos can still keep themselves in range of a playoff berth if they can emerge victorious on Sunday in a very winnable home game against the New England Patriots.
Denver is a heavy favorite in the Week 16 odds, as it faces a 3-11 Patriots team that lacks any sort of offensive punch. New England has won just one of its last seven games, scoring seven points or less in three of those outings. However, the Patriots can play a little defense, which could make life tricky for Russell Wilson bettors.
Keep reading to see which bets I like as we take a deeper look at the Russell Wilson odds in my free NFL picks for Patriots…
Thursday Night Football features a pair of Super Bowl favorites going head-to-head at Arrowhead Stadium to start the 2024 NFL season, and we’ve got you covered with our top NFL props for Patrick Mahomes odds against the visiting Baltimore Ravens in Week 1.
Despite winning it all and earning his third Super Bowl MVP, Mahomes didn’t have his flashiest regular season for the Chiefs last year. Still, our best NFL picks for Thursday’s season opener are calling for the KC QB to air it out to his improved receiving corps against a revamped Baltimore defense.

Late morning at St George’s Park and the weather is perishing. Freezing rain is driving across the landscaped parkland that is home to England’s national football teams. At the back of the complex, apparently oblivious to the conditions, are the men’s blind team, thudding each other into the hoardings.
“If you’re not talking, you’re not doing the right thing!” hollers the head coach, Jonathan Pugh, known by everyone as Pughie, as he watches his players go through their drills. This is the first day of a crucial training camp, with a number of new young talents to be bedded in and two fixtures against Germany squeezed in for good measure, but it also comes at an inflection point for the sport.

Panama’s journey to their first World Cup appearance began at the 2018 Concacaf Championships, where a defeat to Jamaica on penalties in the third-place playoff meant they missed out on qualification for France 2019. That tournament, though, was a watershed for players such as Lineth Cedeño, Karla Riley, Hilary Jaén, Yenith Bailey, Marta Cox and Wendy Natis, who have played a key role in get…
I guess the lesson is that you don't come into Henry Waxman's house talking smack. Just hours after Congress recommended that Roger Clemens' testimony be examined by the Justice Department, the FBI announced that it has begun investigating whether the pitcher lied to Congress when he denied taking steroids. FBI agents in Washington opened the case a little more than two weeks after both Clemens and McNamee appeared at the same House hearing on Feb. 13, each accusing the other of lying. "The request to open an investigation on the congressional testimony of Roger Clemens has been turned over to the FBI and will receive appropriate investigative action by the Washington Field Office," said FBI spokeswoman Debra Weierman. Meanwhile, the Astros are distancing th…
The 2014 Deadspin Hall of Fame class was never inducted, and to remedy that, here they are, two years later. We screwed up. Sorry! Dan Le Batard’s Hall of Fame Ballot. Final tally: 86.64 percent. Butthole Eaten At Lions Tailgate. Final tally: 78.75 percent. Tommy Craggs. Automatic induction. Clark the Cub. Final tally: 74.19 percent. Regarding the last inductee: Deadspin editor-in-chief Tim Marchman was furious when he found out that you, the readers, didn’t quite get Clark to the required 75 percent, so the at-the-time Cook County resident claimed that he’d found a box of late-arriving ballots, allowing the pantsless Cubs mascot to get into the Hall of Fame anyway. When reached for comment, Marchman said, “Go to hell.” Below, the plaques: Image: Jim Cooke Image: Ji…
